I have a 75gallon tank up and running but it is relatively close to some windows which I need to replace. This means I need to drain the tank, move it, and then set it up again. My thoughts were to move the tank, replace my windows and put the tank back all in a 2 day span. I can take of the fish easy enough, but im concerned about my filter media/bacteria. How long can the bacteria stay alive within the cannister (its a FX5) before dying off?

Any suggestions on how to handle this?

The fish that are in the tank are very small, so the plan was to have them in a 5 gallon bucket. No way I would put the FX5 to run on a gallon bucket. I can try to get a container that holds closer to 20 gallons but isn't overkill to put the FX even on that no matter how temporary?

What you can do is get another container fill it with tank water remove the media baskets fron the canester and place them in the container of tank water. Then place an air stone into the container for curculation and the bacteria will survive long enough to complete the move. Once the move is complete put the baskets back and fill the canester with the tank water and you're go to go.

Any centrifugal pump can be throttled back on the effluent side with a ball or gate valve to slow the flow, you just don't want to put it on the influent (suction side)
