I am looking for some deals on canister filters and this would be my first time haveing one. I dont want to get a rink a dink filter and waste my money. What brands are the best to buy? I know some canisters filter different than other what is the best filtration cycle for a canister? A list in order from best to worst brands would be excellent

You'll never get a perfect list. A lot of canister opinions will deal with personal experience, which is mostly somewhat biased. There are a few to stay away from, but most will get the job done.

fluval (the fx5 especially) is very popular on this site, also eheims are popular, i have 2 marineland 350s, theyre decent but i dont have any other canisters to compare them to, but they are one of the cheapest canisters you can get and are common so you can get good deals on them used, one person was just mentioning an off brand of marineland called sun sun that had nicely priced canisters that are supposed to perform well (they were on ebay).
Filters that intrest me are marineland c-360, fluval 405, and EHEIM 2236 any advice or experince with these would be great
