Happened to me too, It won't spike yet but It did for me in a couple of days. Just keep close check and with any signs of Ammonia spike do 25% water changes daily...
Good advice I once got from a member here, when rinsing or cleaning media, you should always use the water from your tank water and NOT tap water. :D

For a situation like this, I keep a bottle of Ammo-Lock. I hate having to use it, but I have been in the situation where one way or another I killed off BB, and had ammonia spikes. Ammo-Lock doesn't affect the biological filter, but it makes it so the ammonia doesn't hurt your fish. It's a life saver when you have a fully stocked tank and you mess up the cycle.

Understanding how and why your filterworks would be a good start. Your fish were lucky this time, may not be so next time.

yup i will definitely keep a close watch on the water parameters over the next week or 2, also going to feed my fish very lightly to ensure that as minimal ammonia as possible is produced.

As for amolock that is a great idea, Iv always wanted to keep a bottle around for just an occasion but was never able to justify spending the money on a "just in case" because i was quite confident this wouldn't ever happen.. lol u live and learn eh ;)

And as for how the filter works, I am quite aware of how it works but was under the influence that a internal filter that you couldn't mess up simply by washing the the cartage and the mesh existed. I am still choppy on this, is this true? or is the cartrage and the mesh the only area where BB builds up?
