Sound like a mini cycle to you.

I said Hypotheticaly.......................

Fine carry on rinsing it in raw tap water. My 125g tank has 8lt of Ehfisubstrat Pro II bio media in 2 2128's you still wouldnt get me rinsing either the blue sponges or the Ehfimech in raw tap water, period.

Yes in but your sitsuation, you do not clean your filters on a weekly basis. My 2 canisters rena xp3s which are set up in the same fashion as you eheims are cleaned every other month with your method. Where as the sponge in each of the two AC110s are cleaned on a weekly basis in hot tap water.

Correct, mechanical medias are also ideal for this. I just dont understand why you would risk the health of your fish by cleaning it in raw untreated tap water when you can achieve the same results by doing it in old tank water.

I use a spray nozzle that provides great force for rinsing detritus, when compared to a bucket of water. Hot water is better than cold water because it will actually loosen detritus faster.

There is no health risk seeing that I have zero ammonia, zero nitrites, and a continuous drip system, coupled with frequent media cleanings that has settled my aquariums to levels between 5-10 ppm nitrates.
