I have a 75 gallon tank with two Marineland Penguin 350s on it. I don't mind the noise but my fish seem to get pushed around when they swim in the current and there seems to be a lot of little bubbles created from the filters. I was wondering if there is a different filter setup I could use. I am not overcrowding the tank but I would rather overfilter than underfilter. I currently have 10 Cherry Barbs, 2- 3.5" Severums, and a Flounder Pleco. (The Cherry Barbs will get another tank when the Severums get bigger, before they get eaten).

Also, when the filter pads get clogged up, the flow is forced to bypass down the middle intake tube and makes bubbles. So the way to reduce bubbling is to fill the tank water high to submerge the spillway, and change the filter pads as soon as by pass occurs.

Penquin are great filters but you have to maintain them right

Microbubbles can be caused by a few things. Is there an airstone near the filter intake? Maybe a small leak somewhere and air is entering? Microbubbles usually are a sign of trouble coming ime unless as previously stated your filter is very dirty/clogged.

As far as other filter options, there are a million different types. I highly recommend the eheim classic series. The 2217 is the best 125 ive ever spent in this hobby

There is a range of new issues if the OP switches to canister fitlers: hard to clean, anaerobic built up, and potential flooding from leak. IMO, Marineland Penquin line is the best ban for the buck that exceeds the performance of its more expensive and complicated Emperor line.

Tank is filled up almost as full as it can get. I think my filters are due for cleaning but I don't think they are that dirty. Why are micro bubbles bad? They seem to just be from the filter as they only appear where the filter returns the water to the tank.

nothing is wrong with some current. if your fish are being pushed around a lot by your comparativly low flow in a large tank, they're probably doing it on purpose. I've had many fish that have enjoyed playing in the current.
as long as you've got some spots with reduced flow where the fish can hang with only small adjustments, you're good.

as far as the noise and small bubbles, is your filter sitting flat on the top of the trim? or is the trim too wide, leaving a gap with the filter resting on the outer edges of the trim?
