I have a young Peacock , and 2 Red Bay Snooks that willl be in a 180gal. in a couple months. I've spent months going back and forth trying to decide on what type or combinatiion of filtration to use that will be more than enough to keep up with the massive about of waste these fish produce. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I hope I can get some advice from people that have these big fish.

Im running 1 fx5 and 2 emp 400 and all is good!!! My current stock is 2 azuls, 1 kelberi, 1 silver aro, 1 indo, 1 silver, 1 thinbar, 2 sliver dollars!!! but keep ind my largest fish in there is the silver which is about 6"

A wet/dry filter is going to be your BEST means of moving large quantities of water and providing a good means of biological filtration. Wet/dry's are not the great mechanical filters so I would go with Lunk's suggestion of a wet/dry and a FX5. I am currently making a 40 gallon long tank into a wet/dry filter for my 220 and it will have a Fluval FX5 canister on it also.
Basically with a wet/dry your limiting factor is the intake, if your tank isn't pre-drilled then you can either have it drilled and install overflows or you have to use overflow boxes and depending on how many GPH they're rated at, that can limit how much water movement you can get through the filter. I am going to use a Mag-18 for my wet/dry, at 0 head it flows around 1800 gph, I think it'll be somwhere around 4' of head so I'm guessing I'll get at least 1200gph and with the FX5 being rated at 925 gph, I'll be right around 2000gph through my 220, which is right where I want to be.

Here is what I have on my 180. FX5, 57 aqua uv, 60 gallon double chamber wet dry system, I use a pan world 1600 gph return pump, I am also using a CR 150 overflow rated to 1600 gph. My water is soooooo clean my two OC have started the mating dance! I also have a 90 grow out that I use a delray 125 and an FX5 on and I donot have any problems with water quality. Hope this helps cause it sounds like everyone is on the same page!
