filter died

my filter played silly buggers at some point today while i was at work, came home and all the fish were on their sides or gasping at the top.

i set up an air pump to blow into the venturi to maximise the air, but after their initially perk up, some of the fish have started to fall to the bottom again.

is there anything else i can do?? have done a partial water change also, and made as many bubbles as possible when refilling it.

What are the water parameters? As much as possible, always have a battery operated airpump and a box filter for the sponge as spares so you can create a temporary filtration. When you are dealing with filters, operate two instead of one just in case one fails to work.
