I have a 55 gallon topfin with a top fin go hob and a biowheel 200 I would like to get a canister filter for it but someday would like to have 125 gallon so I want to get one big enough for it. I have a osar and a algae eater know. Im thinking eheim. but not sure I cant drill holes in my tank. I would also like to run a powerhead in the bottom of the tank to help with filtration. thanks for any help

A fluval 405 pumps more water per gallon than most other canisters, so I would recomend that. A 125 might need alittle bit more filtration than the bio-wheel and canister though, depending on what fish you put in it. Hope this helps!

:iagree: When i had a biowheel it was nothing but problems get a fluval 405 i think thats what im going to get soon

or fluval fx5.......don't think you would need anything but that! about 10 times per hour turning over your water!

If you get a canister, try to get something that is easy to maintain. The Eheim Pro II's are sooooo much easier than smaller Eheim models that I actually think they are worth the coin. Easy to clean, easy to prime, really quiet.

You don't need to drill a tank to use a canister. The hoses/pipes go over the top. And with that much filtration, you won't need a powerhead inside the 55.

I don't know about the new Fluvals, but after about 1 1/2 years pieces of my 404s started breaking off whenever I tried to clean it. If you've got the money, go Eheim.
Ive had the same experience. When they are working, fluvals are excellent filters, but they just start breaking down over time, so if you get one, keep some spare parts around!
