filter floss

i was at a craft store with my wife today , and i noticed they have floss used for stuffing pillows and other things , it was much much cheaper than what i pay at lfs , is this stuff safe to use in filters ? i asked the store they had no clue ..

As long as it is 100% polyester with nothing to kill mildew or anything it is fine.

I buy large bags at Walmart of 100% polyester. Non-mildue resistant floss for around 10 bucks.

Just remember that since it's loose, some of it might get sucked through and float in the tank.

I cram it in to a tray in the canister as tight as I can fit it, never had it leave that tray.
