filter floss

I use the quilt batting sheets as well and love them. It's so cheap I just toss the dirty one every week and install new. Just make sure you don't get any with fire resistant chemicals because they could harm your stock.

I use the regular bag of stringy polyfil from walmart. It was like $4 I've had the same bag for about 6 months that's why I haven't bought the sheet kind. But I just grab a handful and gently stuff my h.o.b.s with it (a.c's, tetras & aqueons) the loose kind is a lil messy but it pretty much stays clumped together when I pull it out. In not sure what kind of micron filtration it gives but it keeps my cichlid tanks clear as my only mechanical filter. You can mechanically filter your tanks for years just for the cost of one box replacement filters. I put activated carbon in panty hose (rinsed) as well as purigen and just drop the little sacks in behind it. Works perfect.

I still have the bag from walmart going on 8 months. I've barely used 10% of it. I toss each piece every week, and I'm using 3 pieces on 3 different AC50s, so It'll last quite a while.
