filter for 100 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Two 400's are really all you need on a 100 gallon tank. A lot will depend on how you plan to stock the tank. Canisters can extend the time between filter cleanings but they also take a lot longer when you finally do servace them. What ever you choose...avoid mixing brands and stick with one or two types of filters on all your tanks.

We've found it a LOT easier to keep repair and servace parts on hand that way...and of course having a couple of spares around...just in case.

I wish I could afford Eheim. For now I'll have to stick with my poor man Rena XP3 canister. Here is my setup for my 100. two emperors 400 and Rena XP3. I'm thinking of adding another XP3 filter later on to push my GPH to 1500gph

Thats WAY overkill....I realize that this IS MFK after all...home of the....too big is just a starting place...crowd but eventually the cost to run the filters outweighs their usefullness...

besides...the extra filters would be better off on ANOTHER 100 gallon tank...<wink> <wink>

Just go to manage attachments on a new reply or a qoute. Then go to browse then upload them from the picture file that has your pictures it's pretty simple. I consider the Rena canisters the poor mans eheim lol. Not saying they are bad they are excellent but the Eheims cost a fortune. Right now on my 125 I have a 2217 and an Emp 400. I am probably going to add a large sponge filter to keep on hand incase of emergency.

....You need to hit 'GO Advanced' before the attachment option shows up...
