hello i am setting up a 150 gallon tank which i plan on stocking with piranhas. what would be a good filter for this aquarium. i was thinking some sort of canister along with a HOB probably a emperor 400. can anyone recommend a good canister thanks

there is going to be a huge bioload with piranhas and just one FX5 wont be enough trust me. for a little over $100 you can build a sump and get much better results. gl

was thinking about going with a sump also what size tank and pump would you say. i am a complete novice with those any details could help

ok im thinking either a fx5 with a emperor 400 or a sump but can any one give me some info on sumps please thanks

how many pranhas

I love my Eheim 2078 but would go with a sump over any canister setup for two reasons:
1) Easy maintence... I can change the pad in my sump without even turning off the filter, 2 minutes max. Changing the mechanical filtration frequently means removing the debris BEFORE they become Nitrates making it possible for longer water change intervals.
2) Oxygenation! Sumps add oxygen to your tank... canisters consume it!
