This is another filter question that is probly played out but i need to ask a specific question. This will be my first monster tank that is more then 75 gallon.

The question i have is in regards to filtration. Will ONE eheim 2260 be enough fo the tank since it is rated for up to 400 gallon tank.

I have always overfiltered all my tank so i was thinking of adding additional filter but is it really needed. I have plans to keep large cichlids, jardini and maybe one or 2 bass. I have read so many treads in the last fews days my head is turning. I have also read that people get crazy with filtration and m ost of time they overfilter(which cost more money with no gains).

Yes it would likely effectively keep water parameters under control, but you may have issues with mechanical filtration. Another thing to look at is, though eheims a great reliable filters, what would happen if it were to break? How long could you go without a filter? I always suggest redundant having filtration because you never know.

Personally I'd use more than one. I used to have that exact tank and I ran 4 XP3s on it. With the stocking plans you have you're going to need a lot of bio-media so I'd go with a pair of 2260s.

I would get another one just to be on the safe side for just in case just as an insurance policy :D

FX5 is what i was thing of adding but how about XP3.

again, i'm trying to overfilter.

I got the eheim for reliabilty. I don't expect the filter to fail, but **** happens.

Other then the having a back up filter, is their any other reason to have another filter. I don't mind adding another 2260 or FX5, but is it really needed other needing it for back up. I'm sure there are other member that is using just one filter on 240 gallon right???????????????????

The Eheim 2260 is said to move about 400 gph... Less than 2 gallons per hour isn't much water movement unless you do not plan to use any decor at all. Preventing dead spots is essential to keeping a healthy tank...

I would at the very least use a couple powerheads to increase the water movement...

The Eheim has the potential to offer very thorough filtration to the water that moves through it, but having enough water movement to prevent dead spots and enough current to push waste to filter intakes would be my concerns on your suggested set up...

Using something like an FX5 in addition to the Eheim 2260 would be a good idea. With these two you may or may not want to add powerheads. That would depend on how you decorated the tank (decor blocks flow), what kind of fish you keep (big fish make big waste and big waste takes bigger currents to clean up) and how much cleaning you want your filters to do vas you want to do yourself during maintenance...
