Wow... it looks like you are looking to think out side of the normal box?
I run what is called Nu-Clears on my tanks except for my little tank (55 gal Rena xp, it is very clean) on my 240 and on my 110 that have very large fish that creat a lot of waist. My tanks are crystal clear and they test out perfect evey time. Sort of think inline filtration, 1 nu-clear has sponge (ment for pond filter) the other has bio media, then out to the pump that moves the water back to the tank at 1500 gph
I only have to clean the sponge Nu-clear canister 1x a month and a light vaccuum once a month. These are live planted tanks and the plants are going great as well...... look into it you will not be sorry.....
