Filter for 75 gallon long?

SunSun is a Chinese brand, you won't find them on shelves in the states.
I have a sunsun and eheim. I like them both, maybe the eheim more though. I have had my classic 2217 for about 15 years, had to change an impeller or two but it works like new. And is very quiet.
I like my sunsun too, but after a couple years it has gotten a bit noisier. Might need a new impeller.
Both filters are very quiet.

I've got 3 sunsuns and 1 fx6 between the 3 tanks. the fx6 is clearly the superior filter but you can buy 4 sunsuns for the price of 1 fx6. I personally do not think the superiority of the fx6 canister warrants the price difference. But again, it's the best canister out there IMO.

As for maintenance on the sunsuns, I basically take them apart about 3 times a year and wash them out, swish the media and pads in tank water, then fill it back up and plug her back in. Usually takes about 15 minutes per filter. I haven't done maintenance on the fx6 yet so can't comment on that one.

Not necessarily. I narrowed it down but there are other options besides powerheads. Has no one ever used internal filters on a polypterus tank? And as for the bubbles, I turn off the Venturi effect at night.

Looks like I was too hasty to give up canisters, huh? Well, I'd be curious to see how the Sunsun compares to the Eheim but the chain of stores I usually shop at doesn't carry it. I'll have to hunt around and see if there's another brick-and-mortar store in the city that does. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I actually use a sponge filter and 2 canisters daisy chained (1st is mechanical, 2nd is bio) you can adjust the air flow to eliminate noise. I'm actually probably going to add another sponge or 2 and unchain the canisters and make them both mechanical. The only reason I wouldn't do matten is because where this tank currently is you can see into on all sides and I don't want to block any view.

Oh the reason I added the sponge was the canister was clogging fast enough(every 2 days) the bio filter was crashing causing a mini cycle and the sponge prevented the crash. Now I've moved 12 of the plecos out of the tank it takes 2 weeks to clog so no more problems
 
HMF filters are great and yes members have done them. Basically a sponge on steroids I'm not sure I would go through the hassle on a 75 I'd probably just get two or 3 hydro V sponge filters if your set on a sponge type filtration.

I'm in the process of setting up a 75 gal myself and am going with ac110 + sponge filter.

Ac110 are probably my favorite filters out there besides sumps. Work horses that are supper easy to maintain.

I've had both fx6 and eheim 2262 (fx6 is not to be compared to 2217 two different sizes) 2262 absolutely destroys the fx6
2217s are great btw but I can't deal with the maintenance so for me it's sumps all day

No one will be able to answer your questions on what would work without more info especially what the bioload is going to look like.

Haha, glad to hear! I feel the same way. I might try a sump if I don't turn the stand into a bookshelf.

I've heard many people recommend the Aquaclear filters but I'm not a fan. I have an Aquaclear mini rated for 20 gallons on a 10 gallon tank, lightly planted, and it doesn't seem to produce enough circulation to pick up the detritus. I've had more success with the Fluval U series.

I'll consider the Sunsun canister but I'll probably go the sponge/HMF route. So can anyone give me a rough idea of how many GPH to aim for? Will a turnover of four times the tank volume per hour be sufficient?
 
Post in the filtration section for HMF filters I can't think of the
People usually aim for 10 times turnover I think its all bs and.more about surface area

Yeah I had one of the downsides of canister filters happen today. I showed up at the fish room about 4 pm only to find no flow through my 2 magnum 350s. Well I have no idea how long they weren't running so I had to clean them out and change the mechanical media and when I turned it back on I tested the water and had to do a fin level water change. Luckily I have a sponge in there so the cycle will recover quickly
