I have a 20gallon long tank...i am in need of a better filter because i have started to notice alot of fish waste on the bottom of the tank (it has only been a few days with the sand in the tank)...so what do you recommend...i am going to keep puffers and i know they are messy...so what do you think

You've incurred a dilemma. You need more circulation bu the puffers don't.

You didn't state what filler your using now, perhaps it can be modified.

Otherwise you looking at more vacuuming or a small power head, everything gets technical and a lot of trouble for a 20g after that.

it is an aquaclear 50...it is really loud (my tank is in my bedroom) so i am thinking of getting another filter just for that reason...also could i get a fish that might eat waste that has piled on the bottom?

Get a minijet 404 or 606 and make a little UGJ system. Hopefully you can dial down the minijet to find a happy medium that can move the poo but not the puffers.

Or... you could replace the sand with gravel. Then the poop would get hidden in the cracks and you wouldn't have to worry about it, because you don't see it.
