I want this discussion to be for the newer people that perhaps don't know so much about Proper Filtration...

I want to discuss the Marine Land 400
Please explain how often biowheel changes should occur...if ever

What type replacement filters are used what type of media is replaced...

What works best for you and your setup

*Please don't use Acronyms or Abbreviations Plain English will help in clarification*

I'm still new and I will be posting several topics like this from time to time in order to help myself and others that are new to the hobby...Let us not forget we were all new at one time or another and to Benefit ourselves and our Fish.

The bio wheel on an emperor 400 should never have to be replaced. I just rinse the blue filter cartridge under running water. You can do this many times until it falls apart. As far as media for the grey containers, I like to fill them with sponge for additional biological filtration. However, you can use whatever media you like.

In what I have read and researched they sell replacement biowheels and also I have seen a lot in videos that were packed almost solid and barely turned even on full blast...I realise their good in biological function but it is something worth asking

Also in my research I have filter replacements...something like Q3 and it makes me curious is there a better or worse filter replacement

Also in position of the intake what works best?

I plan to convert all my tanks to the Marine land 400's over time due to their reviews and the ability to customize secondary filtration I'm going to start by converting my 55 gallon...Just letting you know for clarification purposes

never replace the wheel, my lfs has some that have been going for 8 years, said he cleaned them when he had an alge bloom and it some how was growing on wheel

i bought a used one and i set it up last night but its really noisy. Will it stay noisy or will it quiet down?

Check to see if anything is stuck in the impeller

Sometimes taking it all apart and putting it back together will quiet it. Often air is trapped in the impeller housing. Press down on the intake tube. See if it runs quieter. If it does, you just need to play with it until it stops making noise.

Agreed and Biomax fits nicely in the grey treys. I have all of mine loaded with it.
