Filter making bubbles

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As Krismo showed, just a coarse filter sponge works fine and any LFS worth their salt should have it ;)

What's wrong with bubbles? There are certain species that need that kind of surface water turbulence for good health.
Bubbles help with surface agitation, which aids in oxygen exchange
I put separate venturi valvess in certain tanks to provide heavier bubble induced turbulence for the health of certain riverine species, like cichlids that come from heavily oxygenated environments.

The easiest way to reduce turbulence on the outflow of a HOB filter is the old tried and tested cut-out soda bottle. This is easy, reversible (put on, or remove), and should fix the 'problem'. But I am with Duane's question - what's the problem with the bubbles?
Good luck!

The problem with the bubbles is that the filter is on the right side of the tank which is by my bed so whenever I’m looking at my FH at night my view is blocked by a bunch of bubbles. I put some cotton meant for aquarium filters into it just now and got it set so that it’s actually making 0 bubbles and to make up for the loss of surface agitation I added an air stone image.jpgimage.jpg
