I just picked up a 6x18x28 150g and I need to filter it. I was thinking a couple of common plecos and a handful of snails? :grinno:

I'm open to suggestions, canister or HOB. It's got no overflows or bulkheads or any of that fancy stuff. Initially I was thinking a single fx5, but based on the overfiltration on this site, I don't know if that'll be enough. Not sure where I'm going with the tank, possible SA biotype with an oscar and SAL.

My 150g(same dimensions is effectively filtered with two XP3 filters. Fairly heavy stock in the tank.

DIY wet/dry with 3-5x turnover. By far best bang for the buck

I have an fx5 and 2 ac 110s on one of my 125s and a 20 gallon w/d filter with 2 emporer 400s and an ac 110 on the other!

I would suggest never relying on one filter because if something happens to that filter then u are SOL! I would do a big eheim of some sort (thinking 2260... But I think the people would **** themselves with that much overkill)... Something that flows at 400ish gph. In addition to that an aquaclear 110 or and emperor

diy fx5 cannister... like the one ima make. their is a diagram in the DIY section :D

I have 3x ac110's and a fluval 405 on my 125 gallon and water is crystal clear very happy with this combo.

1 Fx5 is al you would need. Some Eheims would work as well. I always like to see 3-5 cycles per hour. Since it doesn't seem like you have a heavy stock list, you won't need a high turn over rate.
