hello everybody im about to get my external canister soon which is the cascade 1200. I want to know if i can add my own filter media in those tray that are provided within the canister? If so what would be good to fill up those tray? i know this kind of question is perpetually ask on the forum but i just really want to know if it'll work for my canister, if i put in a different media besides the one thats specificaly made for the canister. Also i want to know if its recomended. i really dont want to use to the filter floss and sponge that is design for the canister because i heard they arnt as durrable as house hold products..

Why not a different canister? I would recommend Eheim, Rena, or Fluval. If not, I don't see why you couldn't customize the media.

Suggest piece of sponge foam over filter intake to use as pre-filter. Can take off this sponge foam every 2 to 3 days for washing so not get clogged. This way, keep inside of canister for biological filtration so no need to wash media. Suggest for media use Matala mats and ceramic noodles. Or, just post photo of media included with filter when you receive it, and maybe it is already quite good enough!
