I have heard both "sides," and either way, I don't regularly use it. I think I DID cut the pads and empty them on my one 75. I will have to do the same with my smaller Emps too.

Yeah, I know. I thought the tank was going to be 36" long when I bought it, but it was a different brand and was 6" short. Not that that would have made a huge difference! In any case, I am going to be buying my first home in the fall, and I have money set aside for at least a complete 75 set up. Been saving two years for it! So by this time next year, they will all be cruising in a 75. For now, I am just doing crazy frequent water changes with loads of filtration. I want what's best for them, you know? And if they start growing faster than I anticipated, then I will have to go bigger... sooner. Oh well. ;)

LOL dangit weve already been through this carbon doesnt leach anything back into the tank. It's (adsorption that is) a chemical process that is not easily undone.

I've decided that my task this summer will be to get a new tank for my little predatory buddies. They need bigger digs, and I want to be able to put the Butis and the Nandus in with the other guys (they are in a 20H quarantine tank right now).

In considering filtration options for this 75, what can I look into? I have a pre-existing 75 with 9 African Cichlids and 2 common plecos in it, and I have an Emperor 400 and a Fluval 204 canister running on it, which seems to do the job well.

The problem is that this new tank will not have space underneath it to put in a canister filter, so I will need to stick with HOB's or filters that can sit next to the tank, at least for now.

I was looking at the Rainbow Lifeguard Fluidized Bed Filter (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=3654&N=2004+113427) and thought that could be a possibility. What are your opinions on use of Fluidized Bed Filters in predatory tanks? Is it worth the price?

I rather like the Emperor's, and will probably include an Emp400 on this new 75. I also have had wonderful luck with AquaClear's- they are a solide product and seem to last forever. In 10 years or so of using them, I've only had one totally burn out on me, and I'd been using it for over 6 years, continuously.
