I believe I read somewhere that you can use /poly fil sheets instead of replacing those expensive filter cartridges that go in the b/f . My question is is it the small poly sheets that come on a roll that you use in making quilts that you can buy at like walmart or other fabric stores??

You can also find fine filter sheets that are similar but a little more like felt for a reasonable price. I've been using the same pieces for a couple of years with weekly washing, sometimes I even through them in the washing machine.

wont the pillow batting clog my back filter or should I put it in a nylon bag or onion bag?

I would just stuff the back and change it out when flow decreases. It does filter a lot better than what media comes in the filter so naturally it will clog faster. As far as your filter sucking it down to the pump, I've never had that problem at all because the pump is pushing water away from it to spill over into the tank. Used it on a lot of different ones and have never had a problem as long as its changed regularly.

This sounds like a great idea for those using marine land bio wheel hob's. They come with a built in open and closeable tray for media, so just stuffing that thing full of it would be awesome!!
