So the dumb f*ck who I purchased my 75 gallon tank from told me the Aqua Tech 30-60 filter that came with it would be fine.....and I'm starting to notice, it's NOT!!! It'll last me until this Wednesday, but I'm going to purchase another 1 along with a pump.

The pump I have in mind is a Maxi Jet Powerhead Pump, but can anybody recommend a good filter for a 75 gallon tank with 3 RBP's??

Thanks in advance

I also have 75 with 3 RBPs. I'm using an Aqua Clear 110 and a Magnum 350. I also have an Aqua Clear 400 power head with a quick clean cartridge. This has been working well for me for about 5 months.

Personally I like canister over HOB, canister filter can hold much more bio media (or mechanical media or mix of both) than HOB filters.
see if you can find any canister filter for sale here or on craigslist. I love my FX5s, had one on a 75g with a single rhom it worked great.

I have 8 Baby (1 inch) RBP in a 75 Gallon with two Eheim 2217 and there's plenty of current and water is doing fine. I change 25% of water weekly along with the substrate cleaning. I'm going to reduce the population to 3-4 as they grow older.

Howdy,

Ditto the 2x2217 for a 75 gal, a buddy of mine uses that set-up. If you want to be prepared for a tank upgrade get the Eheim 2260, and you won't have to spend money on filtration later-on.

yeah! they even have them at the goodwill, brand new mint condition here. they're returns from wal mart. lol.

I'm not sure if you know this, but supposedly... piranha's love current (good power-head), and always go 150% of the tank for the pump. so you have a 75gal? 150% is 112.5 gallons... according to the guy who sold me the piranha's. (all he sells is piranha's and he has every type that i have ever heard of)

150% gph of the tank size? that seems pretty weak.
so I need a 800g tank in order to use my 1200gph HK4?
