Filter/Pump Recommendations

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i'd assume. but im just a newbie. I read into every article that i could find about this. most say:

always get one filter @150% of tank size and another filter or powerhead that is equivilent to the tank size, due to the amount of fecal matter they produce.

I hope I am not providing decieving information, i do not wish to, i promise. I have a 150% filtration and a powerhead and it seems to be great... then again my pleco may be working overtime...lol.

The best way to look at it is by finding out how many gallons per hour of flow you filter has ans not what its rated for.

With piranhas depending on tanksize and how many you should have 5-10times turnover rate.
So if you have a 100gal tank then your filtration should be moving 500gph for 5times and 1000gph for 10times, how much all depends on how overstocked the tank is.

5 times may be fine in a 100gal with canisters but if your running hob filters only then def shoot for 10times turnover rate

I have a aqua tech 30-60 And a marineland 200 biowheel and I'm looking to replace the aqua tech

If you can afford it I would replace it with a canister and run your 200 aswell.

If not then an ac110 and your 200 should be ok but not ideal
