Filter question

Ive got a used filter that came with my 29 gallon kit that I want to use with my emporer 280. But it dont have the spongy filter in it? It has the carbon just not the other thing that the bacteria grows on. What can i use to replace it? And is there anything else I can use for a filter besides carbon? I know you all put some of your own stuff in there, im just new to this and dont know what to use?

are you looking for media for the emp 280?

if so the filter cartiges are readily avail. just bout any where. and i run biomax in my second cartridge

i have only seen filter replacements with the carbon in them also if u need a biowheel u can also buy replacements of them too

the only replacement i know of for the emperor 280 is a aquaclear 110

No I was wanting to cut the the filter cartridge open and dump the carbon out, refill with something else (???), and the sow it back up

that sounds easy enuf till you try it, i tried cutting my 400's pad off so i could sandwich bulk media in between. yeah they put them together pertty darn good! i have emps do peng have the second slot for the media basket, if so fill the basket w/ bio n run it

yea it has the basket. So leave the carbon in also?

OK, WHAT CAME WITH IT, DOES IT HAVE FIILTER MATERIAL ON ON SIDE N PLASTIC GRATE ON THE OTHER? OR PLASTIC GRATE ON BOTH SIDES?
