Ok so my question is is it ok to run two filters on a 55 gallon tank with 22 african cichlids in it and the filters are two different brands but both for 30 to 60 gallons

Seems like it may not be enough filtration imo. What's the gph on each of the filters? With that many fish, regardless of size, I would shoot for a minimum of 5x turnover.

They are all like 3 inches and it only says for 30 to 60 gallons so i dont know one is a whisper and the other is a aquatech they are both dual cartridge

Not near enough turnover...In my 55g I have 13 assorted Cichlids...I use HOB filters to barely keep it clear...mine are Marine land Emperor 400 and Aqueon 55/75...I have a lot of turnover but my Cichlids are still Nasty little Punks

That is a lot of fish for a 55. Only time will tell if that is enough filtration as they grown. You may have to do extra water changes to keep up with that large fish load.

I do wayer changea twice a week and im moving them to a bigger tank in a few months

Sounds like the best thing to do, Over filtering the tank is always a good thing to do, Running two different filters will never harm anything even if they are different brands and GPH

really you should be ok ...just REUSE The cartridges ,for as long as they still collect waste... your set-up has a lot of bio-load but 2 hobs that are prob pushing 350 :)gallons per hour ,,should be good as long as you arent dumping bacteria with every water change ,, no need to invest in new filtration if your upgrading tanks soon anyway..helpful hint,, when you do upgrade ,keep the filters you have now and use them on the new tank ...at least for a while..maybe add a canister or sponge filter (my favorites) to the mix...

+1 and....

The AquaTechPower Filter 30-60 is supposed to do 330 GPH

The Whisper is pushing either 150 or 300, depending on if you have the 30 or 60 (a google image search for each will tell you quickly which one you have).

So if your Whisper is a 30 then: 330+150 ÷55 = ~9X turnover.

If you do have the Whisper 60 then: 330+300 ÷ 55 = ~11.5X turnover.

If your water is testing good, then you're good. But they will grow and get nastier. So if you're upgrading to a new tank, get the filter for it first, you can start using it on your current setup.

Good luck

Edit: I just noticed that you said "they're both dual cartridge." This means you have the Whisper 60 so you do have ~11.5X turnover.

Emperor 400= 400gph + Aqueon 55=325gph

That's ~13X turnover OP, with almost half as many fish.

You could add some ceramic discs to the HOBs to add a little more BB as well a sponge filter (air pump or powerhead) to the tank.
That should give you a little more biological filtration to help out and they both are pretty cheap ways to go.
