I have been running a pair aquaflow 70's for my 75 gallon tank. That gave me "enough" filtration for 140 gallons according to the specs. It seems like one of my filters is starting to try and die on me. It's been making lots of vibrations and will sometimes loose its prime. I am looking for a good affordable filter for this tank. As of right now I have 1 JD approximately 5" and 2 GT approximately 3" each. 1 pleco approximately 4" and 1 pleco approximatley 2" 4 BA tetras that are approximately 2". I want more filter than the minimum requirement. So I am looking for suggestions and if yall know of any place on line that I can pick it up cheaper than the LFS will you please post it up. Thanks in advance

E-bay is great for deals on new filters.

If I was you, I would get a fluval 405 or a XP3 to replace your dieing AC70.

IMO, manufactures overstate the capabilities of their filters, by around 35 to 50%. Most tests are done without any media or before there was any ware and tear on the product resulting in overstated capabilities. The 405 or XP3 will also give you more filter media and options allowing to keep up with your growing bioload from your plecos and larger cichlids.

At the least I would replace the AC 70

though AC filter are great filter and yes they say they can handle 70 gallon tanks but they really cant
use AC for mechanical filtration there good for that but will not hold enough bio media to handle all your fish in your tank
not even two of them once they grow up
dont wana be a party poper but i personally think your over stocked with just the JD and 2 GT's
then the plecos if there commans you have to re home
re home all the fish except for two and get a fluval 405 for bio and keep AC for mec to keep water clear!!!
if you dont youll just be doing water changes every other day once all fish grow up just to keep water in check!!!

Thanks for your help guys I'm gonna look at both of those filters and gonna look on Ebay and Craigslist to see if I can find a good deal.

Just get two AquaClear 101's.........Regular price range is between $59-79 each........One will be just right for a 75g, but two is perfect..........Next pay check, purchase a small canister filter, preferably a RENAXP4($129-140) or a FLUVAL 405($89)..........
