Add a Marineland 400 or AC 110 and your water should clear up. Maintainance will always be part of fish keeping so you're never going to be able to slack off on it.

AC 110 may produce too much flow for a 30, I would say AC 70 would be a better choice.

Same with the E400...stick with an E280 Although theres nothing really wrong with the Wispers. Add a set of SC2 supercartrages to them and you'll triple the bio-capacity and never buy another filter cartrage...These use washable pads...

You can check out my Wisper series on the...***This old Filter*** Blog. Just hit the personal blog link to the left...

Im curious to know what exactly you have stocked in there, which may be more of the root of the problem rather than the filters themselves. But Id probably do an XP2 canister and keep the 2 power filters. Expecially if your tank is that dirty.

do you have any recommendations for replacing the two tetra whispers?

The Whisper filters offer good mechanical filtration, but are worthless for biofiltration. You can keep one to reduce particulate matter.

I have a 30 gallon with a Fluval 304 on it and I love it. My water is crystal clear all the time.

on ym 30 i have am emperor 400... keeps the water nice and clear... deff worth the money... n if u dont like that then deff go with an AC ( aquaclear)

I got a elite sponge filter for $9.48 at pet supply plus today.

I threw it in my 30gallon tank and I don't really understand how it works but it seems to be clearing my tank up.

It looks just like this

If you could give me some basic information about it I'd appreciate it. I.E. How high should I set the bubbler to..? How often do I clean it? How should I position the top piece that spits out water?

I was also wondering where to get "SC2 supercartrages" I tried googling them and all I got was links to the mfk forum. If you could link me it would be greatly appreciated.

The air displaces water in the lift tube and draws water in through the sponge. Thats the basics... The Hydro's have MUCH larger sponge areas so they are a LOT more efficiant.
