You will see when you break down the 20 how much accumulated debris there is under the plates. Two years ago I broke down some tanks that were setup with UGF for a couple of years, I vacuumed regularly, but you cannot get all the detritus with vacuuming. Get a big HOB, AQ or Emp and keep the substrate shallow.
i though UGF are also good? I always see petshops using only UGF with no HOB. though it will accumulate dirt under does that contribute to amonia spikes? i believe that it is still beneficial to have UGF.
