hahaha
this is a load of crap, its actually the exact opposite. the emp400 does not force the water through the media, while the ac110, filters water much the same way as a cannistwr, pushing the water through all the media from underneath. 100% contact.
hehehe I found that odd when I found it as I know a lot of people here have said nothing but good things about the AC110 as well as the Emporer. I just figured for the kind of monsters I am taking care of I'd get some feedback on what would be best for them! :)

i know you sound like you care a lot about your fish which is very commendable. I don't know where else to tell you, but its really not a good idea to keep the african yellow labs with the new world cichlids. their water requirements and behaviors are very different and this can stress out all in the tank

No worries as when I bought my labs they were with baby oscars and jack dempseys...they are mutants really! Also my aro has a higher ph requirement than any aro in general due to the New York New Jersey water stats, the person I bought her from raised from a baby and did well that way so I mimic what he had, I know they say yellow labs have different requirements but these guys are doing quite lovely and like I said they are probably fish form of X-men or something! Also all the fishes personalities are quite docile compared to the average cichlid behavior. Everyone in my tank including the aro are extremely mellow and co-exist quite harmoniously.

There really is no debate. The AC110 is better in every aspect. The ONLY thing better about the emp400 is the price, and even that isn't much of a difference. If the emp400 was half the price of the AC110 it wouldn't be worth it.

The AC110 offers a much higher flow rating (100gph more that the emp400)
Media capacity comparable to a canister rated for the same sized tank. (just about 1g of media volume, which is more than some canisters. I can fit all the media from my eheim 2227 into an AC110).
A media basket that allows you to customize your media regimen. (unlike the emp 400 which uses those crap media cartridges)
Rinsable mech media (no need to buy expensive media cartridges. Just rinse in a bucket of tank water and put it back in the basket)
Lower electricity usage. (something like 5-10w less. I don't know off hand, but I have the info @ home). While this isn't a big deal for most people, it can add up if you're running multiple tanks.
Reliability. (my oldest AC110 is just about 9 years old. But I have spoke with people who have AC500's twice as old and still kicking. Also, the filter sponge will only need to be replaced every 5 years or so)
... And that's without going into the built in re-filtration system. Or the useless biowheels and spraybat, but that's for our discussion all together.

But in all fairness... The emperor is something like $15 cheaper. Hahaha. :)

I'd rather not loose quality over $15!!!! Great info I think I have definately decided on two AC's for my 55 gallon. Feedback's been pretty awesome! :)
