Filter setup?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No you do not. Only for removing medication. You can achieve clear water through enough water changes. So save your money and don't keep buying the poly-carbon until you need it.
Thankyou for letting me know

So what would the tank benefit from if I take the poly carb out and switch them for more bi foam ?

more media to house bacteria that process ammonia and nitrites... Changing out the poly carbon every now and then will reduce your bacteria population. If you're overstocked, this could cause issues down the road (after the fish are full grown adults) where your tank might experience mini-cycles.

Since you cannot add anymore foam, we can use the poly carb as bio-media. You can leave the current poly carb now, and use it as bio-media after the carbon quits adsorbing organic compounds. Don't change it at all. Just rinse in old tank water in a bucket until it starts to fall apart or gets too clogged up. Then change it for new one. I'm betting you can keep it the poly carb in there for months as "biological media", maybe even a year, before you change it out.
