Filter Socks (READ)

It is a simple fact that if you can remove fish waste before it is broken down, you will have less nitrates.

It is also a simple fact that the majority of the waste is at the bottom of the aquarium, in the substrate. So, common sense would indicate that you're not doing much bio control by replacing a filter sock every other day vs every week.

According to your logic, it wouldn't make much difference if you cleaned your filter once a month or once a year. All I am saying is that by changing or cleaning your filter sock more often, you will remove more waste from the aquarium. Waste turns into nitrates. Less waste = less nitrates.

According to your logic people should clean they're canisters and HOBs every other day.

According to my logic, what I'm saying is, there should be no difference between two days and one week. If I'm changing filter socks every other day it's because they're clogged. This thread is about making them last longer with stuffing, and it works.

As i said, if you have to change mechanical every other day in order to deal with nitrates, you're doing it wrong IMO.
