Getting some 7" filter socks for my cichla. Question is what size microns should i use? 200? 100? 50?

For those of you doubling up your socks....what are good combos? I was told 50 microns in a 100 micron bag? I read a 200 micron sock in a 50 or 100 sock? Any one ever ran it both ways? Difference?

Just need some recommendations before i place an order. Thx in advance.

I ran a 100 micron inside of a 50 micron. But, I plan to buy some of the 100/50 micron combo filter socks from McMaster-Carr on my next order.

Thats where i was planning on getting my socks from...didnt even know they had combo socks:nilly:

Yeah, they are there. Someone else pointed them out to me. I skipped over them the first time I ordered.

What is the difference between polyester and Polypropylene ?

The polyester is the fabric, the polypropylene is the hard plastic ring in the top.

They should all have rings and handles, but some are made with different materials.

Mine from McMaster-Carr have a metal ring inside with a sewn in handle. They're 100 micron.

I think I'm going to get some 50's or some combo ones as well. The 100's do a nice job, but just not enough...I want the water clearer!

The socks come in polyester _and_ polypropylene and both can come with polypropylene rings.

The polyester is a single layer felt. I have a few polypropylene socks and they are singed on the outside to keep the fibers from migrating. Ittsa a tough sock.
