Filter through eBay?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can import stuff toll-free if it's under 30$ :-P
But I think I need to pay 25% in taxes anyways :-P Stupid..

And tolling is about 10%.

So I got to count product + shipment (5-10$) + 25% taxes + 10% toll, I think... I'll look closer tommorow, but It can't possibly be much to save here..

I'll also check if they toll packs from privates (which I heavily doubt), a filter doesn't weigh that much more than a letter anyways.

The Cokin requires that you pick up a P holder which mounts on the front of your lens. The filters are then fitted into the holder (you can mount multiple filters in there, such as GNDs on top of each other for the desired effect).

Here's a search done over at B&H for 67mm filters from B&W, Hoya, and Singh-Ray.

Looks like the only one that Singh-Ray produces in that size is their gold/blue polarizer ($180). Saw what this filter can produce and it can sometimes be too much. I'd skip this over and take a look at the others, unless you have some money to blow.

For Hoya, I'd take a look at their SHMC pro 1 filters since it has front threads on them (cost is around $160). I'm using their SHMC pro 1 UV filter on my 17-55mm lens right now.

They also have HMC ones for quite a bit cheaper ($86).

For B&W, I'd take a look at their MRC filters. You probably won't need the slim one if you're just planning on using it on the kit lens. Cost is $115.

They're all very tempting. But I'm trying to get away with a cheaper solution, a.k.a a bargain ;)
That's why I'm browsing eBay.

The Polarizer doens't have to be top notch, my only demand is that it produces better landscapes photos than what it would do without.

I'm looking at this one for the moment.

30 bucks, and I'm pretty sure that's the only fee I need to pay exept the 2$ in shipping.
And if there's a 30% add which I doubt, I will still save a lot.
The seller has nothing but good reviews.

Is it a good polarizer? (does it do what I will expect it to do in other words :) )

(I'm almost forgetting about the IR)

Alex, re: shipping to europe, find out about "gifting". I can ship stuff to you, I have both UPS and USPS shipping accounts. I know on UPS if you put low value and a "GIFT" notice, there are no taxes to some countries. If they think it's not a sale, they do not charge taxes. Find out and let me know I can ship to you if you tell me how :)

Thanks for offering Ed :)
You guys are to kind :-D

I will do some research on "gifting" etc.
If we do it that way, how are we going to do it?

I transfer the amount of money to you to buy the filters + shipping to your place + gifting to norway?

This is all heavy stuff at this hour  Hope I'll see the light tommorow.

Doubt you need to go through the trouble Ed.
It looks like I've found a seller. 99,7% good rating and I've just exchanged a couple of e-mails with him.

I would have to order the IR filter but I do sell them. Chances are if it’s ordered today I can have one here by Friday and ship then BUT it’s only listed on my website.

My shipping charges are the same there.

I thought that was what you wanted to know.

My official international policies are I label all international packages the same, used camera part with a value of $5.00. I also check the gift box. This speeds things along and avoids any charges on your end.

I'll do the gifting research tommorow, and if there's no charge, I'll order.
Price is about 100$ incl. shipping for a Hoya polarizer and IR filter.

alexander, the most versatile method of using filters would be with a 'kit' like Eric suggested. the coking 'p' system is ok (you can use other filters with this) and from what i hear the lee system is good also. the good thing about these, are that you can get adapters so you could use these with different lens sizes. many people use combinations of circular polarizers / neutral density (or graduated nd) / warming filters..... the list goes on. nd grads are especially useful in the holders because you can slide the glass to match your horizon. anyways - as far as shipping goes... if i were to send you something as a 'gift' you would be tolled?

I doubt I would be tolled, I'll find out tommorow...
Now I'm confused, really confused...

100$ for a Ir filter and a polarizer is very tempting. This should go toll free, the seller never experienced anything beeing tolled.

But I'll check what the cockin system w/filters will cost...*needs sleep*
