how many times per hour does your filter, pump the volume your largest the tank....or how many times per hour is the water 'turned over' ????

examples:

a 100 gallon tank with a 200 gallon per hour filter/pump .... 200/100=2

a 50 gallon tank with 300 gallon per hour pump.... 300/50=6

it seems that manufacturers over rate their filters quite a bit.....and i wondered how much filtration most of us use...............

1 time per hour or less
2 times per hour
3-5 times per hour
5-10 times per hour
more than 10 times per hour

120g tank 2 eheim filters 2226 & 2026 250gph each,

so 500/120 = 4.166666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666667 times per hour.

ofcourse it depends on the filter type also, But I supose some one will tell me that 1 AC110 is equal to my 2 canister filters

I turn mine 6 times per hour.

Depends on the fish in the tank. My discus tank gets 2.5 times/hour, my pleco tank 10x/hr. and my aro tank get 5x/hr.

75g tank w/ a Eheim 2215 at 165 gph and a Peng. Biowheel at 350 gph = 515.

515/75=6.866666666666666666666666666666666666666666667
near 7.

Now 3-5 but I want to go 10 x +.

My largest tank gets just under 9x per hour (8.84) going by my net tank volume and my filter manufacturers output with media under load. However I have been wondering for some time EXACTLY what my filter output IS. I plan to get as large a container as possible, then calculate it's capacity. Then I shall get the return from one of my FX5's and see how many seconds it takes to fill the container, then pro-rata that figure up to ACTUAL litres per hour, I am quite sure it's going to be considerably less. I shall test it on Wednesday 21st February and post the results for all other FX5 owners in particular!!!

All of my tanks with wet/dry filters are 3x and those are the ones I put on the poll. My HOB filtered tanks are more but my sponge filtered tanks I'm guessing is much less.

All of my tanks are 15 times. I have a 20 gallon with a Whisper 30-60 (300gph), 10 gallon witha Penguin 150, and another 10 gallon with a Whisper 30 (150 gph).

No real reason. I just like extra filtration and my Danios come from fast flowing streams anyways (20 and 10 gallon).
