im sorry can you explain to me what matrix is.....i looked it up but couldnt find alot of detail about it. and what do the ceremic rings do? also do i need to purchase the "speacial" water polishing sponges to get that crystal clear look or will that pretty much happen with the matrix and ceremic rings alone? thanks again for your help!

the ceramic rings provide a place for beneficial bacterial to grow and prosper. It is good to only rinse with aquarium water as not to kill the bacteria. The bacteria transform harmful ammonia to nitrite and then to less harmful nitrate.

As for the sponges They didn't seem any more special then my Pond filters sponges. As I said before, when they don't rinse clean they'll be replaced.

anyone have any experience with nu-clear filters. they look well built and the price is pretty good too
