filteration for 210g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is the tank drilled? Get a sump. if not, build an over flow or get a couple big canisters. I personally have a Eheim 2260 and 2217 on my 180 and couldnt be happier.

i've got the same tank:D:headbang2

i've got two large canisters (off ebay, for both was under $100) each push 175gph so total for mine is 350gph. my only problem is tiny particles...
want to get a FX5 for bio and put nothing but filter floss in my two canisters. my power head has a air hose so it has a bunch of micro bubbles....
that might be mostly what i'm seeing. i believe i have the bare min. filtration wise you have to make sure to keep all the water moving so there are no dead spots!!!!

It depends. Planted tanks need much less filtration. Big, messy fish need more filtration. What you put in the tank determines the level of filtration necessary more than the size of the tank does.
not sure about you but i'm not keeping tetras in in my 210!!! so the more filtration the better... having a big tank and keeping little fish is like having a fishing boat and not fishing, it just doesn't make sense!!:headbang2:D

ps big fish= rearranged tank.....daily

dead spots!!!!

I have solved this problem with my big tanks by sticking 2 or 3 Aqua CLear filters on each...These guys are "miracle mechanical" workers...As for as biological filtration on a big tank, nothing is more reasonable than a sump...

Get a sump it is so easy to get it drilled mine was done with a cordless drill and a glass cuter holsaw while it still had water in it I just droped the water leve and it took next to no time to do. 1 hole for the bulkhead fittings and a normal spray bar setup for the return all up including the sump and pump under $300 australian cheaper than an equivalent canister for the amount of bio filtration

My 210 has a wet/dry, Eheim 2250, A large sponge run by a powerhead and two Emperor 400s.

Well this is what I run on my 180g with two 23-25" silver aros, 15" tiretrack eel, 8" polleni and a dozen other 4-6" fish. Two AC110s (rinse sponges with hot tap water weekly) and a xp3 with I clean about evey two months. Along with weekly 50% water changes, the water is clear and params are always perfect.

Why tap water? You are wiping out that "extra" bacteria. Why not a bucket of tank water to preserve it?
