I have a flowerhorn which is tiny, around 4.5 inches currently in 40B. I am moving soon (east coast to west coast) and will be getting a 75 gallon tank. My flowerhorn will be a sole fish in the tank, may be a pleco that would eat algae. I am looking at

2 x hang on back filters (AC or tidal 110)
or
1 x eheim 2217/600
or
1 x eheim 2217/600 + 1 x hang on back filters (AC or tidal 110)
or
something else?

I will be adding 2 x 200W heaters as well. I am not planning to build a sump.

Opinions?

I am asking because I don't want to over filter the tank nor I want to have lack of flow to circulate all the water.

You will want to run a fast flowing hang on back like ac110 if running an eheim canister. Those things are super quiet and nice ( I have 2 pro3s) but dont have great suction / discharge. The 2x ac110s will be best bang for your buck. I have a friend that has been buying those cheap fx6 knock offs on ebay and he loves them.

I overfilter everything. You can fit 2x ac110s on a 29 gallon hahaha

Why do we need hob with canister? I was thinking about tidal 110 because of extra features it offers like Surface skimmer, heater holder and self priming.

I think with only one fish, I should be good with bio load and should be concerned about circulation only, right?

You might be good parameter wise, but the slow flowing canisters dont do well with mechanical filtration. I actually remove all but the first coarse filter in all my canisters for more flow and bio media. You will have waste and whatever else floating in the water column constantly with the eheim 2217 and nothing else. The additional water movement from the additional filter is beneficial as well.

I would like to put some corals in the filter any way if the KH is low. May be going with just 2 hob would do the job.

I run two aquaclear 110s on my 75g. On all my other tanks that are 6 feet in length I run a canister along with aquaclears. I do it this way for water movement.

Good choice! One mod I would recommend for a 75 and fx4 is a spray bar. I like the 3 piece ones so I can tune 2 sections on the ends to discharge at top of water line for more dissolved oxygen and center section to sweep the bottom toward intakes.

Thank you. Sounds like a good idea. I think tidal is taking good care of gas exchange, but floor sure does needs sweeping.
