Two 2217's would be fine. I do agree that the 2217/AC110 combo is hard to beat.

Is this some kind of custom or acrylic tank? I'm just trying to understand why it would have a 3 inch lip all the way around.

You could have two 2217s with that money...or an entire new tank setup if you got it used. Thats a bit more than a little pricey
