hey guys i need your help my 55g tank has a gar, rtc and a foot long arowana iknow the tank is small but i have to grow them out a little before i put them in the pond since the fish in the pond are much larger okay what type of filtration is good for the tank i only have a internal filter and a sponge filter. will a canister filter be sufficiant share you opinions the rtc and the gar are quite small 8 inches

i would go for the internal filter. i will only use sponge filter for fries. i would say tht it depends on (?)litres/hr tht ure filter can work to ure 55g.

We'll hopefully your telling the truth and do have a bigger pond for the fish especially especially the RTC and Arowana, Alright now on to your question.

Do you have any specs on the canister filter? And the other filters?

You could consider doing a sump and a DIY trickle tower, look it up on YouTube.

Really depends on husbandry. If the 55 is established and you perform regular water changes then a properly sized sponge filter and internal could get by for awhile. Canister would probably make life easier, but.... We play smoke and mirrors in aquariums to a point. Just depends on how much of each you are willing to throw at it.

I run a handful of growouts on nothing but water changes and oversized sponge filters. If you're bare bottomed and vac regularly .... I wouldn't sell the sponge short. Sponges rock!

This coming from a sumper by nature.

SunSun makes a great internal filter sold by Tech'N'Toy on Amazon, pushes "425 gph" and I almost believe it, these are powerful. - only 15 bucks or so

The problem is that with such large bioload in a 55G, you're going to have to clean your filters very frequently due to the high volume of waste being produced. I would look into cheap Ebay canisters like SunSun and Odyssea CFS. These will be better in the long run (AKA 2 weeks with RTC and gar). If you let us know the size of your TSN in the pond, we can give you a better estimate of what you need. (So we know how long/large you'll have to grow these out)

If the tank is cloudy, your filtration isn't up to par, as I'm sure you already know.

the tsn measures 22 inches long also there is a hybrid in there which is 15 inches the pond measures 9 x 3 x 3
the rtc measures 8 inches the arowana is 12 inches the gar is is 8 inches. here is a pic
