Filtering my 125G canister or hob ? both ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Eheim 2080...last filter you will ever have to buy... I just made the same move from a 75gal to a 125gal, I was running an AC110 and a Eheim 2026 and then upgraded to just a eheim 2180 and a UV sterilizer.

Well I picked up a used Xp3 And filled it full of bio, It took all of the bio from both my ac110's plus a brand new package, I have foam in the bottom of both 110's plus carbon, I will add a second block of foam to both the 110's for mechanical. Man am I ever Happy with the XP3.

3 ac110's.. sounds very noisy!!

i have 2 brand new ac110s on my 56 gallon... its more noisy then my Eheim 2028 and fx5 put together.

i do have to say the ac110 is a great HOB!! 500GPH, good mech filtration and decent bio filtration. all for under $80 NEW!!

i would go with an Eheim over the XP3, but the XP3 is good too!

my 100 has Two Eheim Pro II's and one Ac110. water is always clean and clear.

Well the cost of a new filter vs picking up a used xp3 for about $60 usd convinced me. A new XP3 up here runs $175 plus tax. The guy I got the filter from has a second one for the same price that I am inclined to go pick up as a spare.

That's a good choice for filtration for a 125g. I run 2 ac110 and a eheim 2217 on my 135g and my water is clear and healthy.

I agree that the xp3 with the two hob's will do a fine job. I run two penguin 350s and a xp3 on my 125. Water conditions are awesome. I do think that a heavier stock tank might need another canister, depending on how much you feed them. Would love to see some pics!
