Plugged up again. Oct 24 till Nov 2. I have pulled it out and went back to a 14x14 filter floss. This tank has a internal sump pump.
So every thing gets pulverized. By weight 85% of the waste is smaller than 300 microns.
I will probably revive this on my replacement sump someday.

The continuous water dripping, after I removed the sieve, was getting annoying. I spent a while. With a filter floss tote.

Waiting for the shipment of bulk 200 micron filter sock fabric.
So finally got a easy solution. A 200 micron pipe extension muffler. 20161119_100946.jpg
Works great. Dead silent.

Well I had some extra materials. So I ditched the floss and built a odd sized filter sock. It is solely supported. With a 12" x 8" x 4" plastic bread basket.20161119_102137.jpg

I filter to 50 microns...just using normal filter socks. I can say it has had zero effect on biological filtration which deals with dissolved organics. Far greater benefit has been my use of Purigen which specifically targets dissolved organics along with specific denitrifying anaerobic media used in deoxygenated slow flow areas of my filtration.

This is mostly to remove excess food, in a over stocked aquarium. Which would quickly cause severe water quality issues if left to normal biological filtration.

It is being installed on a new idea, A fluidized algea ball scrubber. Which will convert ammonia into algea. Without any bacteria in the process.

It currently is 12" wide and about 14" tall. I was originally going to have it about 20" but I will take some extra logistic work arounds.

At 500 gph flow I don't think it will be a problem.

I will use a high pressure water sprayer, to blow it out every few day. I looked into the wedge wire screens, too expensive for a rough build.
