Filters for 125g Question

Ever cleaned a fx6? Complete pain. When from fx5 on my tank back to 3 ac110s on my 180. Eheim is better biological and design seems easier to clean but no experience with it.

The need for 1 or 2 filters is based on your bioload. If you’re overstocked you’ll need 2, if you have minimal stock you can probably get away with one and then some powerheads for extra movement.

I dont think the fx6 is that bad to clean. You can just take the whole stack of media out and dunk it in tank water. Takes me like 5 minutes.

I do like the idea of 3 ac110s. Thats actually how i would run a 125 with no plumbing. 3 big hobs right across the back. And it would be comparably easier to maintain.

You need to remove the sponges to clean it probably and the basket fills up with gunk. Eheim is just a bucket.

I had a love/hate relationship with my FX6. Loved how well it did, hated to clean it. I'd love to see the cleaning method that gets it clean in 5 minutes, I was clearly doing something wrong!

I would take mine, drain the water into a rubbermaid container, toss all my media in the rubbermaid container w/ tank water, remove all the sponges each sponge took 2-3 minutes to get all the poop, muck, etc out. Then spray off all the grime on the baskets, then move to the inside of the bucket and scrub out all the grime in the bucket. Then put everything back together, go hook it up and restart it. And that was Every. Single. Month. I don't see how these guys that run 3 or 4 FX on their tank survive, that is so much time cleaning filters.

If you have the time to clean them, the FX line is incredible and will not steer you wrong.

I just have a small cooler about halfway full of tank water. Take the whole stack of media out and shake it in the water. Maybe it takes me 7-8 minutes. My point was i dont think its the big hassle eberybody claims it to be. But there seems to be a lot of people supporting that so i guess theres some relative truth to it.

I have a wet/dry, and an eheim pro 2 on my 125, couldn't be happier. I did dual fx6 on a 180 with a pair of umbees, and they worked out great, but like someone else said, cleaning fx6's is really a pain in the butt man
