Filters for gars?

The spotted or the floridas I live in an area where I see some in the summer months not far from Leesburg Alabama what type would range there?

Out of those two, you're looking at spotted gars considering where you are. You might also find longnose gar and possibly even shortnose gar (not 100% on those, though). Of the three, the spotted gar is your best choice for a first gar if you intend on collecting it yourself.
 
going to point out as far as filtration goes.. neither of mine appreciated a high flow rate until they got larger 12"+ They need just as much filtration as other fish even though they will come up for air. They are a pretty heavy bio-load species imo, but not the worst. they need water quality thats consistantly good, they don't tolerate ammonia or high nitrates very well.
 
i would like to noe how big can a spotted gar grow up to any pic last time i saw on series of "monster fish', it abt 2m ot least but it not the same species
