Filtration Delima!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Rightnow I do about 10-25% water changes on the 30 Breeder every other - every 2 days depending on the mood I'm in each week. All my tanks get water changes could times a week accept the 20 long I do that once a week. So weeks I feel I do too much tinkering with my tanks. My fish love it though. All eating well and growing big.

I vote for a 2260 eheim or a FX5 and two LARGE hob's AC110 I would prefer if it was my tank. Should keep the fish more than happy.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind. Question for you. Do you think the FX5 is work all the hype it gets.? I thought about it, yet I've hear good and bad things about it. I work in a pet store and the fish guys say I could use the FX5. I've thought about doign a sump do I can have the massive bio I'm wanting. Some have suggested 2 canisters. One for Bio and the other for Mechanical.

For large tanks, it is either multiple canisters or a sump. A wet/dry can be customized to work for mechanical as well. Most use simple sponge prefilters or a thin layer of polyester sheet in the drip tray; however, multiple large filter socks can provide excellent mechanical filtration or even better would be an entire prefilter chamber filled with varying types of Matala or even a WD filled with Matala which has been done. Check here for some ideas, similar medias can be used the same way. http://www.matalausa.com/subcat30.html

Yes the FX5 is worth all the hype because its so affordable IMO. It could probably handle your entire bioload if set up properly and it does a great job of mechanical filtration. However on that size tank just to be safe I would run an ac110 as well just in case.
