Filtration for 125 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you have the space a sump would be good because they have the a much bigger bio capacity than any canister and you will need it they can be very messy fish. I also put a long air stone along the back to help with the circulation , to pick up stuff from the bottom and it all works very well

For a 125g, a good setup would be 2 AC110/Emp 400 with an large canister filter (XP4, Fluval 405, large eheim).

well since you are building your own stand and you know your tank isn't big enough why not just buy a 180???? get a reef ready 180 and build your own wet dry???? couple hundred more for the tank but would be a smarter idea....

well so far all i have ever used has been hang on filters. so i need to learn how to set up a sump before i try to go that route. i am going to the lfs today for supplies and am going to talk to the guy there for some hands on learning. it does seem to be the best way to go in the long run....and if i ever get to build the monster tank i want....i will definately need one

I use ac 110s and fluval 404s on most of my tanks.I find that as long as you do water changes every week and keep enough flow your tank will be fine as long as you dont over stock it.You can also go to walmart and buy the cheap 32 dollar aquatech filter then go buy a box of bio max 10.00 with bio rings that are in a net slide them behind the media and you now have a bad filter gone good. The smaller tanks have the aqua tech and water quality is just as good.

I had issues running 2 ac110 on my 125g that was stocked pretty good but once I hooked up a spare 2215 things cleared up fast. If you dont have any filters yet and are looking to buy I would go the wet/dry route.
