filtration for 125 gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
would 3 ac 110s work though? because thats what i would rather do

Survey says, yes ....

AC 110s claim a flow rate of 500gph

3 unit solution
3 x 500 = 1500gph
Turns your tank 12 times per hour, or once every 5 mins :woot:

2 unit solution
2 x 500 = 1000ghp
Turns your tank 8 times per hour, or once every 7~8 mins :clap

Your 3+1 solution is more like 2 plus bio wheel with the Pens
It is a fine solution. :headbang2

The 2 Pen 350Bs would only be ~ 6 times per hour

I am just not a big fan of the AC filters, they seem louder to me.:swear:

thanks for the math lol, i thought the ac 110's were like 428? I really dont know. my ac 50 isnt loud at all, all i hear is water splashing when it gets low. but i can just fill it up. since i use glass canopys the water level doesnt go down as much. if the 110s are loud i will just turn the tv louder i guess lol. i like the waterfall noise though. btw where should i put the powerheads and what brand and model should i use?

i'm pretty anal about my water so this may sound like alittle overkill.
on my 135 i run a 1-tetratec pf500, 1-cascade 300, 1-lifegaurd 300fsb run by a rio ph, a diy over flow and wetdry with a rio pump. 2 filters that are rated for a 100 gal tank one thats good for 300 gal and who knows what the wet/dry is good for but i'm sure it would be more than enough for the tank . and in the tank i have a 7" retic ray a 9" silver arro and a sivler doller.

wow thats enough filtration for a tank twice that size lol! but i want the tank to look good and i dont want a bunch of filters and stuff everywhere, so im just doing the H.O.B. filters and im going to build a stand and canopy for it and stain it and gloss it exactly like the trim and doors in my basement. my dad is really good at staining stuff because he has been a painter for over 20 years. he is good with wood too so he can help me. i also know someone that works for a lumber company that can get me everything for cheap :)

I used 2 Emperor 400's on a 60 gal. tank for about a year and a half. Switched everything over to a 125 and added a Rena XP-3. I change 30 gal. every week and tank is always clean. You might think of doing 2 Emperor 400's to start, and then adding more, or a Cannister down the line as your stocking leve rises.
