Hi guys and gals. What do you guys use to filter your 20 gallon long and 10 gallon tanks? I was thinking AC50 or AC30 x2 for the 20 gal L. AC30 or 50 for the 10g. Is the AC110 too much for the 20g?
thanks in advance.

I have a 20G long with an AC50 and an AC30 . . . two AC30s would be fine

don't have a 10G, but on my 15G I run an AC30 and an AC20 . . . also an old Eheim Liberty 100, but I don't know how effective that one is . . .

Thanks. What fish do you have in there? Are they ok with the water flow?
I was thinking of putting a couple of small dats and clown loaches.

my 15G is planted tank with German Rams (m. ramirezi) . . . the water flow is not a problem at all, except on water changes where I have to turn the flow down so the substrate doesn't get stirred up

the 20G - - which is a "tall", not a "long" (oops) is a planted grow-out tank with some TexaCon cichlids (hybrids) . . . again, water flow is not a problem, but if it were a long, I'd probably have to turn the flow down during water changes, for the same reason as above

I assume when you "small dats and clown loaches" that you grow-outs, right? in either case, I doubt the flow would be a problem, and if it were, you can adjust the flow on an AC

I have an AC50 on my 20 gallon long. If I were to run one filter, I would get an AC70... I'm thinking about running two AC50's. You can see it in my signature if you like...

My params are always 0 A, 0 NI, low NA because it is planted, but I like really clear water! The single AC50 I have running with a sponge and double bio is not doing that. Here is my suggestion...

Run two AC whatevers (I would even venture to say two AC50s is just grazing the surface of over-filtration, you could even go bigger), fill one up with a double sponge insert and a fine filter floss, and the other one sponge insert and the rest bio material (or one part chemical filtration, if you prefer). That way, you get plenty of mechanical filtration and bio filtration... the sponges will totally act as bio filters too. Also, you can run one intake all the way to the bottom of the tank, and one in the middle, filtering different water columns. Alternatively, run both double sponge with a single layer of bio material.

AC filter are MUCH more efficient mechanical filters when they have two sponges, and running two filters is always a good idea in case one crashes for whatever reason.

You clown loaches will not mind the flow (I have kept 3 species of botia, including currently keeping clowns)... they actually really like it, and will swim in it. They swim straight into the output of my FX5 on my 125 gallon with joy! Ha.

Just please have at least 100 gallons for them waiting.

I am rocking a Rena XP3 on my 20L. It was the only filter i had laying around.

When it was fresh, I had cories, a baby BGK, and a couple bristlenose plecos. I had alot of driftwood to break up the flow and i used the spray bar to break up the flow. All the fish seemed to love it.

My 20L is actually a reef tank now with the same filter on it but with the power jet instead of the spray bar. As long as you give the fish places to get out of the strong current, I would say go for whatever your wallet will allow.
