Looking forward to pics.

They're going to be awhile yet. This is all in the planing stage (AKA hiding money from the wife so I can save it). I'm figuring it will be about $5000 needed for the tank and filters. Plus plumbing parts, lights, wood for stand etc.
I'll probably figure out the equipment end of the setup, and purchase that before ordering the tank. That way when the tank finally arrives, everything else is here. I hate looking at an empty tank. :)

I also hate looking at an empty tank, in a lucky causal stroll on CL a couple days ago I am currently in negotiation for a 500G, but if I get it it will be at least a year before I Will be able to buy all the filtration and heating needed.

Ken can you give me an idea of what your filtration unit costs and what parts are what. Its so nice and clean and I know its a beast!

Good luck getting it. Don't forget to post some pics!

What are the options for heating tanks this size? I really don't want a heater inside the tank. I was thinking of getting some titanium heaters and figuring out how to plumb them into the lines for the heaters.
Acuatic Eco-sustems has these cord grip fixtures which sould like they'd do the job for sealing around the cords.

I really want to stay away from anything going over the back of the tank. Otherwise I have enough canisters to do the job already. I'd like a setup where I get all the filtration and all the flow off one pump if possible. No powerheads or heaters in the tank either. When I look at the tank I just want to see fishy goodness, not the hardware. :)

Thanks. I think I'm sold on the pressurized canister option.
I can drill directly through the back of the tank, run the lines through a cartridge or bag filter, then through 1 or 2 bead filters, then back into the tank through a few different holes.
I just have to find out if the cord grips I linked to above can actually take a filter and put it into a PVC pipe without leaking. If so, then 2 or 3 titanium heaters will round everything off.
