i have a very small bio load, a 2 inch jack and like 6 ghost shrimp. i have a budget of about 50-60$. anyone reccomend good filters at this price? will a penguin 350 bio wheel do fine? or should i go canister? i want this filter to last all the way to the jack being adult without having to upgrade.

any advice is welcome.

Sure. Personally I'd go with a Hydro5 sponge filter and an MA600 air pump. Add on an AC 50 with dual mechanical sponges at a later date if necessary but I doubt you'll need it. I have a 50 a 55 gallon set up this way. Both have crystal clear water and perfect water peramitors with minimum expence and low maintaince.

Id rather see you use a Emporer 400 with super cartrages but I've run a double nickel (55) with a penguin before for a number of years.

Yes. I like the Hydro5s better but they do take up a bit more room. Supercartrages can be picked up on ebay and replace all of the stock media with a perminate cartrage that has a pair of washable mechanical filter pads.

I'd go with an AC110(63.99 on bigals and foster and smith), if you go the canister route, I'd go with an XP3....but that will cost around 80-100.

i want to get the ac110, but im on like a 40$ budget, i can do a 350 and a sponge on that, or even a ac70 and a sponge

the 70 would be enough on a 55 but I'm less happy with the bio-filtration on AC's the sponge filter would be a MUST in that case. Yes they make the SC's for the penguins and they work great.
